Tonight I attended the "Capture and Creativity" tour in St. Louis. Capture and Creativity is a four hour seminar hosted by Clay Blackmore and Jane Conner-Ziser. I highly recommend this seminar -- it's very affordable and jam-packed with great information. Clay discusses his creative posing and lighting techniques while Jane demonstrates her prowess at retouching in Photoshop, Painter and Lightroom. There are still a number of dates / cities left on the tour...if you have the chance...go!
Check out the Capture and Creativity web-site for more information.

If you are a nature photographer, you might want to check out Great American Photography Workshops. GAPW has been in business for 15 years -- and they have a wide variety of classes from single day events to multi-day tours.
Here is the web-site:
http://www.gaphotoworks.com/
On the site you'll find information about upcoming events as well as articles written by GAPW instructors.
(BTW -- I really wish I could go to the Glacier National Park workshop in September -- Scott Kelby of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals will be there!)

If you are looking for an amazing training seminar at an affordable price, consider the One Light Workshops from Atlanta-based photographer Zach Arias. His intensive day long seminar has received rave reviews from photographers all over the country and the class only costs a little over three hundred bucks. For the third year in a row I will be assisting with a Rocky Mountain School of Photography (http://www.rmsp.com/) weekend seminar. RMSP returns to St. Louis this year and this time the focus is all digital! The seminar will be held April 21st and 22nd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Clayton -- you can register for 1 day for $109 or 2 days for $169. The Digital Weekend is perfect for photographers and photo-enthusiasts alike as you can take either basic classes or advanced classes through the weekend -- and you can choose which classes to take while you're there, no need to decide in advance. To register or find more information, check out this link.
From my experience, Rocky Mountain is one of the best photo-education resources available to photographers today -- I took one of their pro studies classes back in 2004 and found it to be an incredible learning experience. I'm excited that instructors Tim Cooper and David Marx will be back in Missouri for 2007 and I'm also looking forward to seeing and helping my friend Michael Robinson with administration of the Digital Weekend!

I love going to photo workshops -- if I had unlimited resources, I'd make a career out of attending photo workshops all over the world! Unfortunately, I do have limited resources...so I typically attend only a handful of workshops each year. One of the best workshops, in my opinion -- in terms of bang for the buck, is Atlanta photographer Zach Arias' "One Light" workshop.
Zach teaches about a dozen or so "One Light" workshops each year -- all over the U.S. His philosphy is basically do more with less. He states on his web-site "We have one light in the sky, the sun. Good enough for the earth, good enough for photography." For 2007 his "One Light" workshop rate is just $325. I have yet to attend one of these amazing seminars...but I do plan to sometime in the next year. For more information about attending a "One Light" seminar, go to www.onelightworkshop.com. You can also find out more about hosting a workshop in your city.
Keep up the amazing work, Zach! And thanks for sharing your knowledge with fellow photographers.

I sit here in my comfy living room recliner witnessing Duke take an unusual early exit from the NCAA tourney (there goes my bracket...I don't remember when I had them leaving...but it wasn't in the first round!), I'm compelled to post a good tip for sports photography.
Probably one of the best web-resources for sports photographers is sportsshooter.com and the Sports Shooter Academy IV is just around the corner. Sports Shooter Academy is a five day hands-on training experience that puts students right along the sidelines of NCAA sporting events. Some day I'd love to attend one of these!! One of the coolest things about Sports Shooter Academy is the reasonable cost -- under $500 for students and just $550 for working pros.

The 2007 calendar for Rocky Mountain School of Photography's Photo Weekends and Digital Weekends has been published and I'm happy to see that St. Louis is on the schedule for a Digital Weekend. I have helped out with RMSP Photo Weekends for the past two years (2006 in Kansas City and 2005 in St. Louis) and had a blast meeting so many photographers.
What I love about RMSP weekends is that they are very affordable, they offer numerous sessions for both beginner and advanced photo topics, as well as mini-trade shows with exhibitors like Canon and B&H Photo. RMSP sessions are always more focused on the photography and not on selling more stuff to you. :) Be sure to check the schedule to see if a RMSP photo or digital weekend will be coming to a town near you.
