I've been considering the Canon EOS 40D for my wife. Most places are out of stock...many have waiting lists.
I found that you can buy it on Amazon.com -- according to their web-site they have them in stock and you can get free 2 day shipping.
Here is the link (which is thru my Amazon associates page -- which supports the Daily Photo Tips education fund):
The above link is for the kit -- the 40D with a 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS (image stabilization) lens. Amazon's price is $1499 for the kit.
If you just want the body only (and not the kit) look for the drop down and select the "body only" option. The body only price on Amazon is $1299 -- pretty much the same price I've found on B&H, Wolf Camera, etc.

Epson's clearance e-store is having a sale on refurbished projectors. For instance you can get a 1200 ANSI lumens projector under for $399. Awesome!
Click here for details. If you like the look of projecting your digital images / digital projects onto large screens...you can do it quite affordably with refurbished projectors for not a lot of money.
There are also great deals on point and shoot cameras, printers and scanners. (About the only thing I wish they had a little lower prices on is their storage devices...but, hey, we can't get always get what we want all the time, eh?)
EDIT: I stand corrected! \o/ I just bought an Epson P-2000 40GB portable storage device (refurbished) for $254.95 after instant rebate. Very niiiiiiiiiiiiice...I've been wanting one of those doo-hickeys...makes life easier when I'm shooting weddings with a 2nd shooter...I won't have to wait to get the files! Thanks Epson...you all ROCK!!

This week at the Wedding and Portrait Photogrpahers International convention in Las Vegas, my cyber-pal Gary Fong introduced his latest flash diffuser invention -- the "Whale Tail." Read more about it on the Gary Fong e-store or by clicking here.
The Whale Tail claims to be the first ever diffuser to offer a rear wall bounce, an instant change-out gel tray for color modification / creative effect, as well as a propreitary fastener system that allows the Whale Tail to attach to almost all flash types. I haven't had a chance to test a Whale Tail yet...and his inventories are running very low (as always!)...but as soon as I do get my hands on one...I'll post some sample images.
Keep up the good work Gary!

I love going to photo workshops -- if I had unlimited resources, I'd make a career out of attending photo workshops all over the world! Unfortunately, I do have limited resources...so I typically attend only a handful of workshops each year. One of the best workshops, in my opinion -- in terms of bang for the buck, is Atlanta photographer Zach Arias' "One Light" workshop.
Zach teaches about a dozen or so "One Light" workshops each year -- all over the U.S. His philosphy is basically do more with less. He states on his web-site "We have one light in the sky, the sun. Good enough for the earth, good enough for photography." For 2007 his "One Light" workshop rate is just $325. I have yet to attend one of these amazing seminars...but I do plan to sometime in the next year. For more information about attending a "One Light" seminar, go to www.onelightworkshop.com. You can also find out more about hosting a workshop in your city.
Keep up the amazing work, Zach! And thanks for sharing your knowledge with fellow photographers.

I love entering contests (and, yes, I have an e-mail address just for the lovely *mail* that my frequent contesting generates). My wife and I gave my mom a cool Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas last year...and it was a mixer that I won at a local grocery store by just filling out an entry blank.
Popular Photography & Imaging is sponsoring a contest to win $1,000 just for signing up to receive their weekly newsletter. The winner gets a $1,000 shopping spree at one of their "checkrated" retailers. Click here to sign up for the popphoto.com newsletter. Good luck! If I don't win, I hope one of you does. (BTW -- disclaimer -- I am in no way affiliated with this contest...see the contest entry link above for complete rules.)

While today's post isn't directly related to photography...I find it relevant since I tend to listen to so many great photography podcasts on iTunes. The more great photographers who podcast and share their knowledge with the world, the better pictures we'll all take! Podcasting is term used for audio and video recordings that are shared on the internet.
B&H Photo in New York recently published an article with the basic information on what you need to know to podcast. Click here to read the article.
As always, be sure to let me know if you come across any cool photography related podcasts. :) Just e-mail me at dan at dailyphototips dot com.

There are only two days left in the latest edition of Canon rebates - "Cash In With Canon." So if you are on the fence about buying new or upgrading old Canon lenses or camera bodies, you have until 1/13/07 to be eligible for the current rebates.
And if you bought any of the eligible gear between Oct. 15, 2006 and now...REMEMBER TO SEND IN YOUR CLAIMS! (That's a "note to self" as much as it is to everyone else!)
UPDATE (1/12/07):
Thanks to a tip from photographer Phil Pool of Omni Photo by Phil -- Canon just announced that the current "Cash In With Canon" rebate promotion has been extended until February 19th! Click here for more details.
